Kickboxing Styles:

Defensive Positions

Slip: Rotates your body slightly in order for an incoming punch to pass harmlessly close to your head. As an opponent’s punch comes, a boxer rotates the shoulders and hips. It turns your chin sideways and permits a punch to ‘slip’ past.

Bobbing and weaving: Bobbing moves your head laterally and underneath the incoming punch. As an opponent’s punch comes, a boxer bends his legs rapidly and simultaneously slightly shifts the body left or right. As a punch is evaded, a boxer ‘weaves’ back to the upright position, emerging upon either the inside or outside of an opponent’s arm that’s still extended.

Block/Parry: As an opponent’s punch comes, a boxer offers a lateral, open-ended, sharp blow to an opponent’s forearm or wrist, redirecting a punch.

Cover-Up: The hands will be held high in order to protect the chin and head and the forearms will be tucked against your torso to impede a body shot.

Clinch: To do a clinch, a boxer will loop both hands around the exterior of an opponent’s shoulders, scooping back underneath the forearms in order to grasp an opponent’s arms snugly against his own body. Within this position, an opponent’s arms will be pinned and can’t be utilized to attack.
